Making the most of Mock tests

After all the hard work and effort one puts in for preparing for a test or an entrance examination, everything comes down to how you perform in the under pressure situation of the examination hall. Well the easiest way to check your performance abilities is take several mock tests, which gives a proper estimate of your overall performance.

What are Mock Tests?

Mock tests are like sample question papers of the kind of test you are going to sit for. These test papers could be based on the current syllabus of the examination you are sitting for. There several things that one require to follow before he/she starts taking the mock tests, which are as follows:

  1. Complete knowledge of your syllabus
  2. Thorough preparation
  3. Definite idea of the test pattern
  4. The strategy to follow during your examination
  5. Taking the mock tests seriously

How to make the most of these tests

The first of the four points mentioned above come as a natural instinct to most of the students because of the fact that they are the major tools without which they can’t perform efficiently in the examination. But the point that gives you the boost or rather say the advantage to perform better in your examination is the mock test. The student is strictly required to take the mock tests in a serious manner like the way they are planning or supposed to perform in an examination.

Preparing for mock test

There are several patterns for taking these mock tests, but the most commonly used one is the 3-step mock test pattern that enables the person to judge his/her skills in 3 steps, thereby ensuring a 100% exam compatibility. The time duration for following this pattern however varied from student to student i.e. it can be taken in a time period of three months or 3 weeks as per the capability of the student.

How does this strategy come into play?

In this strategy the students after the full completion of the syllabus takes the first set of mock tests (the number of tests depends upon the requirement of the student), the result of which can be judged by the student or the concerned tutor. Following the result the student again prepares/revises the whole syllabus and sits for the 2nd round of mock tests and the same process follows for one more time.

Customize the pattern

Well this can be considered as a standard pattern, which is of course modified as per the requirement and the capability of the student i.e. if the student is studious enough to score consistently in the 2nd round he/she can skip the 3rd step, but in case the student is bit weak in studies a 4th round can too be introduced in the loop to increase the performance skills. The basic idea that works for these mock tests is that the more you practice the better you will be able to perform in your test. This rule is applicable in every field of life and it actually works.
