NDA Entrance Exams: All about disciplined Determination

For all those who aspire to have a career as an officer in the armed forces, NDA entrance exam is the first of the hurdles that he/she has to face. The NDA exams are conducted twice a year in the months of April and August so one has an ample opportunity to try for either of the slots.

Preparation

Basics

Getting your basics right is fundamental for cracking all sorts of entrance examinations since they are formulated in accordance to achieve so. To crack the NDA examination is not that tough a job if you are fully prepared and determined to do so. The students who are determined enough to appear for the NDA entrance test start preparing for it soon after the completion of the 10th standard. An aspirant is required to revise thoroughly his/her 10th syllabus of social sciences (history, geography and civics) and other science based subjects every alternate week.

Brush up your General Knowledge

Ideally, one should be reading newspapers, magazines and journals on regular basis to keep oneself up to date with the current state of affairs happening worldwide. It is too advisable for aspirants to pick up a copy of an updated authentic yearbook that covers an array of topics such as sports, international politics, popular books etc. Remember this whole process is an elongated one, so if you plan to crash on to a pile of these books or magazine juts a few months before the exam, it wouldn’t be of much help. Instead he best way to absorb information is to keep a record of them by taking notes regularly and classifying them into 3 categories namely economics, civics and history.

Improve you command on English

Basic proficiency on English is required to clear the NDA entrance examination. The English paper carries 200 marks and shouldn’t be taken lightly by students. One should be into bit of daily English reading and practice especially in sections such as grammar and proper usage. Focus well on articles, grammar and prepositions.

Syllabus

1. Mathematics

Math is a key subject to crack through the NDA exam. Getting your fundamentals straight and strong in several of its sections such as Arithmetic, Mensuration, Algebra, Quadratic equation, Geometry, Trigonometry and Statistics comes quite handy while answering 120 questions in two hours. Try learning quick solving tricks unless that you won’t be able to attempt all the questions.

2. General Ability

This part consists of sections A and B with the latter consisting of 5 parts that are Section A (Physics), Section B (Chemistry), Section C (General Science), Section D (History, Freedom Movement etc.), Section E (Geography) and Section F (Current Events), which carry weightage 25%, 15%, 10%, 20%, 20% and 10% respectively. As you can notice from the science section 50% weightage here, the students from the science stream would have an upper hand in this examination. So it’s advisable for students of other streams to brush up your science subjects as well along with that of the arts.
