Colonies of yeast fail to multiply in water, but multiply in sugar solution. Give one reason for this.

Answer

Yeast show asexual reproduction and forms the new individuals by the budding process. Yeast requires energy for the growth and the cell division. Sugar is the essential element for the multiplication of the yeast because it provides energy but water does not provide energy. Thus yeast multiplies in the sugar solution.
