Who Can Appear for INMO?
INMO eligibility is determined by the current HBCSE Mathematical Olympiad rules, not by a single age statement. For the normal pathway, students qualify through the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) according to HBCSE's regional selection criteria. HBCSE may also allow specified previous INMO awardees to appear directly when they satisfy the current cycle's eligibility conditions.

INMO Syllabus and Preparation Focus
INMO is a proof-oriented mathematics competition rather than a chapter-by-chapter board examination. Preparation should build strong problem-solving and proof-writing skills across olympiad mathematics, commonly including algebra, geometry, number theory and combinatorics.
Students should practise writing complete logical arguments, not only final numerical answers. Use official or authentic previous olympiad problems where available, analyse multiple solution methods, and spend time on problems that require several connected ideas.
INMO Exam Pattern
For the 2026-27 cycle, HBCSE lists the INMO as a 4.5-hour examination with 6 questions. Each question requires a detailed proof. This means solution quality, reasoning and mathematical justification matter more than speed-based objective answering.
