Chapter 8 Going Places

Sophie and Jansie are the two girls who were most likely to work in the biscuit factory after the school.

Sophie dreamt to open a boutique or to become an actress or a fashion designer. She planned that she would work on the position of a manager and would save money to open her own boutique.

But Jansie is a practical girl who knew her reality and background of her middle class family so she knows that bigger dreams need bigger investments which they can’t afford that’s why she discouraged Sophie for such dreams.

Sophie’s father has a nature of aggressiveness. She knew if she tell him about that she had met an Irish footballer Danny Casey then her father will scold her a lot. So when Geoff told his father about it so her father got angry, he turned his head to look at her with disdain. So Sophie wriggled where she was sitting at the table.

No, Geoff doesn’t believe what she narrated to him about meeting with Danny Casey. When Geoff listen his story than he replied that he don’t believe in it. And when he asked her about how Danny looks so she explained but he was not convinced of his explanation.

No, his father didn’t believe on her story, when Sophie told him about Danny Casey he looked at her with disdain and thought as it is her another wild story. And he ignored her and started talking about another football player.

Sophie’s father don’t give her so much freedom to wander outside as Geoff got freedom from father as he is boy so she feels jealous of him. She dreams that one day she will go out with Geoff wearing yellow dress. And she fantasizes that world will greet them.

Danny Casey used to play football for Ireland team.

Sophie and Jansie were good classmates but in spite of that she didn’t want to tell Jansie in fear of that she will spread this encounter with Danny Casey in neighborhood.

In reality she didn’t meet Danny Casey. She made a fake story only to get attention from Geoff and others.

It was a day when Sophie’s family went to United for watching Ireland’s football match where she saw Danny made second goal for his team by beating two defenders and goalkeeper and made team win that match by 2-0.

Sophie and Jansie has different behaviour and perspective towards the life. All the time Sophie lives in her own dream and imagination. She is not clear what she want to do in future as she changes her opinion again and again. Whereas Jansie is practical girl and well matured than Sophie. She has a clear state of mind that what she have to do in future. She tries to make a clear perspective of life to her friend to stop making big dreams after knowing the reality of their family background and financial condition and remind her that they will have to work in biscuit factory later.

Sophie’s father has a round chubby face who has a aggressive nature towards her daughter Sophie who scares of his aggressive nature. He knows the reality and don’t believe in Sophie’s wild narrative stories. They went United to see match of Ireland and he don’t believe in young inexperienced player but when Danny made a goal then he felt proud and after that they celebrated the victory.

Geoff has a friendly nature with his sister. Sophie feels comfortable to share her feelings with Geoff. Geoff is a well matured brother who doesn’t live in dreams. And he is a practical boy. He has freedom to wander in unknown world of what she feels jealous from her brother. She wants to go out with Geoff wearing glamorous clothes and being greeted by everyone. Geoff symbolizes liberty for Sophie. And she is fancied with his life.

Sophie’s family is of 4 members. She lives with her father and two brothers Geoff and Derek. And she belongs from a middle class family. Her father work as labour and his brother Geoff is an apprentice mechanic. And her family wants her to work after school. She dreams lot of work which is out of her family background which Jansie make her realized and told later they would have to work in biscuit factory. This is the condition of her family.

Sophie is a very sophisticated girl who lives in her own dream and imaginations. She used to make fake stories on which no one believes so to get the attentions from others she made a another wild stories of meeting with Danny Casey. She got so much ignorance so she started living in her own world of fantasy. When Danny didn’t arrive on second date she disappoints. She was not willing to accept the reality. Therefore her dreams and disappointments are figments of her imagination.
