August is named after Augustus Caesar and according to the modern-day Gregorian calendar, it is the eighth month of the year which contains 31 days.

In the common years, August doesn’t start at the same day of the week as any other month but it ends up as the same day of the week every year as November. During the leap years, same as the month of February, August also begins on the same day of the week and ends as the month of November.

History of August

August was named as Sextillis in the previous version of the Roman calendar and consisted of 31 days. But when January and February were added to the year, August later became the eighth month consisting of 29 days. However, in around 450 BCE, Julius Caesar added two more days to the month of August and later on, in the honor of Augustus Caesar, it was renamed August in 8 BCE.
