Question 1:

Give reasons for the following.
(i) King Tut’s body has been subjected to repeated scrutiny.
(ii) Howard Carter’s investigation was resented.
(iii) Carter had to chisel away the solidified resins to raise the king’s remains.
(iv) Tut’s body was buried along with gilded treasures.
(v) The boy king changed his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun.

Answer:

(i) King Tut was the last ruler of his family and was very rich but he died unexpectedly in small age. His mummy had earned worldwide fame because his mummy was found with lot of gold and other luxuries and everyone was speculating that how he died in small age and what was that age when he died. Hence King Tut’s body has been subjected to repeated scrutiny.
(ii) Howard Carter had chiseled the mummy because Tut’s body was stick in the tomb due to resins. And due to chiseling out the body he had damaged some major parts of his body and rather focusing on cultural and historic values, he focused more on treasures so his investigation got resented.
(iii) It was difficult remove Tut’s body as it was cemented due to resins which had hardened then, so he was not left with any other option except chiseling it.
(iv) In the ancient times, it was believed that if a king dies so he should take all his treasures and luxuries with him and as king Tut was very rich so he was buried along with glided treasures.
(v) In the ruling age of Amenhotep, he had removed all the temples of god Amun. So when Tut’s time started he had re-established all the temples of god Amun. And to show respect and belief he changed his name from Tutankhaten to Tutankhamun which means “living image of Amun”.
