Define heliophytes and sciophytes. Name a plant from your locality that is either heliophyte or sciophyte.

Answer:

Heliophytes are photophilous or sun loving plants which grows in strong sunlight. For example: sunflower, mango etc.

Sciophytes are photophobic or shade loving plants which grows in shade. Example: Abies, Taxus etc.

Small, narrow, thick and linear leaves, internodes are short.

Large, broad and thin leaves, internodes are long.

Have high rate of transpiration.

Have low rate of transpiration.

They are profusely branched having thick and hard stem with well- developed extensive root system and contains sunken stomata.

They are sparsely branched having thin and soft stem with few roots and contains surface stomata.

Palisade tissue is well developed.

Spongy tissue is well- developed.

The chlorophyll ratio a to b is very much higher.

The chlorophyll ratio a to b is little lesser than that of heliophytes.
