In recent times the name Google has become as familiar, a major part of our life just like school, office, bookstore, hospital etc. The first thing that comes in mind while talking about the World Wide Web is Google, which is an American multinational corporation that specializes in Internet-related services and products.

Brief History

Initially Google started as a research project by Larry Page and Sergey Brin doing. At that time they were both doctorate students at Stanford University, California. The idea was to develop a better search engine, which was intended to provide large quantities of information based on their relevance. The word Google has been derived from the terms “googol”, which stands for the number one followed by one hundred zeros. Although the workings for Google had already begun in January 1996, the original domain was registered on September 15, 1997 with the company being incorporated on September 4, 1998.

Hearing the word Google what is the first thing that strikes your mind? It has to be convenient. The whole concept of convenience has been redefined ever since Google has come into our lives. The logic behind the development of this super integrated system is that in general sense people take ten times as long to type an extra keystroke as they do to glance at a page. The whole concept is similar to Google results except for the part that the results keep on updating as you type extra words.

The best part is that one can even get a list of the various public transports available on a particular route worldwide. Now how cool is that?

It doesn’t matter from which part of the globe you belong, this system of Google helps you in translating more than 50 languages along with audio support for 23 of them.

4. Google Books

If you think you have visited the world’s biggest library then you probably have forgotten to consider the Google Books. This system allows you to search almost all the books that have been published till now, so that one could either download it or buy it online.

5. Google Images

Google has one of the world’s biggest library of images that reflect here due since they whole World Wide Web is connected effectually connected Google thereby letting it proudly showcase each of their content whether pictorial or written.

Is democracy the best form of Government?

Of all the tried and tested governments, democracy indeed is one of the best forms of governments, if not the best. But at the same time, democracy is not free of flaws. It has been a subject of great debate and discussions, and it all boils down to the matter of opinions and perspective. Every kind of government comes with its strengths and weaknesses, there are many takers of democracy because by definition a democratic country is run by the people and for the people, but if one dives deep into it, there would be many broad classifications of it which have positive and negative attributes. A democratic set-up comprises a multi-party system with different ideologies and functions differently from each other which gives birth to chaos amongst its citizens, yet by all means it does make sense to be a citizen of a democratic country rather than a dictatorial state.

Democracy gives people the right to free speech, right to information, right to protest even against their own representatives or the elected ones. Democracy provides dignity to its citizens, it allows people to express their views and every individual holds equal rights, regardless of their position in the society. Quite opposite to an authoritarian state where all the power is vested on a despotic or a dictator, democracy provides empowerment to all its countrymen and no one has described democracy better than Lincoln, “By the people, of the people and for the people.”

On the other side, democracy does have its loopholes, it gives scope to conflicts, hampers the economic growth and fails to accommodate contrasting views and opinions which eventually compels the practice of the majority rule and puts the minorities interest in danger.

The conflict of interest is resolved through dialogues and the existence of transparency that allows the government to take decisions based on the interest of the country. If a section of the society or a party is not in agreement with the government’s decision, the constitution gives the country men the right to protest peacefully against the elected government which is certainly not possible in an arbitrary or a military government.

Another key point which goes in favour of democracy is the Rule of Law. The constitution of a democratic country keeps every citizen equal before the law, regardless of a person’s wealth, designation and social status. Through democracy, Human Rights are protected which provides every individual the right to education, employment among many others. In a democracy, there is scope to rectify the mistake through the power of vote, be it the parliamentary or state elections.

While many famous leaders have opined democracy as, “Democracy is not freedom. Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to eat for lunch.” but this theory can be just called a perspective. People who are against a democratic government always give the example of China which is one of the most economically powerful countries in the world, the development is largely credited because it doesn’t function on democratic set-up which gives the ultimate power to the ruler of the country to take decisions which might not be favored by its own citizens. Some also opine, the success of a Monarchy form of government like Saudi Arabia where there is no dearth of wealth which allows people to live a lavish life. Now, all these examples are compelling, but one can’t simply credit the development of these countries because of non-democratic government, but it also depends on the natural resources and the geographical location of the country.

To sum up, every individual would prefer to live in a state which allows the person to live and enjoy the essence of freedom. A state or a society would suffocate people if there is no right to equality and freedom of speech. Every individual is different and thinks differently and hence in a civilized society the existence and the right to debate and protest provide individuals the security and the peace of mind that his opinions and thoughts are not curbed, but valued. Yes, democracy has its cons but among all the forms of government, an ordinary person would prefer to breathe in a space freely. John Adams the second president of the United States once quoted, “Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” So, there will always be powerful people who will be against democracy, but I prefer to enjoy the freedom to express my views through this article which is possible in a democracy only.

Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)

The Defense Intelligence Agency or DIA is an intelligence agency under the ambit of the Union Ministry of Defense for the three wings of the defense forces, the Army, Navy and Air Force.

The DIA collaborates with the IB and RAW to investigate intelligence information. The Director of the DIA is the principal advisor to the Chief of Defense Staff and the Minister of Defence. What is Verbal Reasoning?

Verbal reasoning is a psychometric test which has been developed by psychologists to measure and identify cognitive ability of job applicants and is accepted as a credible means of intelligence testing by large employers for assessment, selection and recruitment purposes.

It is designed to evaluate the reasoning ability, comprehension, and verbal skills of an aspiring job applicant. It assesses the suitability of a person for a job by measurement of the desired skills. It is the standard and widely accepted form of assessment included in virtually all graduate level aptitude tests.

Verbal reasoning tests can be asked in various formats, depending on the level of the job. Basic verbal reasoning tests include sentence completion and analogies which measure linguistic ability; higher level exams for graduates, professionals and managers include problems based on passages, statements that assess the ability to draw the correct conclusion, deduct logical explanation and inferences from the given information.

Employers seek to measure certain basic skills through verbal reasoning tests. Employers gain an insight into an applicant’s potential through the verbal reasoning scorecard. The scorecard enables employers to reflect and assess the applicant’s ability to identify crucial business-related matters, deduct logical conclusions through business reports, frame official documents, and explain business terms in simple words.

Assume that the information provided in a given passage is true and base the logic over it.
Do not use either your prior knowledge or general knowledge to answer the questions. • Interpret the passage to have only an implied meaning and do not make any explicit assertion.
Practice questions and test your speed over each type of question. Limit your time and do not exceed it.
Read the passages briskly to get an overall sense.
Having selected an option, check if it is logically coherent and grammatically correct.

Steps to prepare for Banking Probationary Exams

The first entry point for starting a career in the banking industry is to take the Probationary Officer exam. After the successful completion of this exam one is appointed as a probationary officer, which gradually moves up the ladder to attain positions like Manager, General Manager etc. Since the whole process of competing in the Banking Industry is based on the individual performances of a person, graduates show huge interest in applying for Bank Jobs.

Examination

The Bank Probationary Officer exam consists of both Objective and Descriptive tests. The objective part consists of sections like reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English test and general awareness. The objective part has 1/4th negative marking for wrong answers, so it’s advisable to leave the question if you aren’t sure about its answer rather than attempting it getting 0.25 marks deducted. On the other hand the descriptive part requires the candidate to write essay type answers for the questions provided. Tourism Potential of India – The goods and the bads

India has always been considered as one of the most diversified countries in the world and has been blessed with rich heritage and has a history of ancient civilization. A country which survived the rule of the Mughals and the British Empire somehow has managed to retain to its charm and unique cultural heritage as well; having said that, it is by no means lesser in terms of scenic beauty, be it the humongous mountain ranges of the Himalayas or the greenery of Kerala. The country is bestowed with natural beauty and wildlife along with the royal palaces of Rajasthan and the historical buildings built by the Mughals, the Taj Mahal for example. Yet, our government has never been able to completely capitalize and utilize to draw as many tourists as it should have. We are going to discuss how and why we need to boost the tourism in the country and the barriers that could just ruin its enormous potential.

To begin with, the true potential to expand and attract more tourists to the country lies in its natural and beautiful beaches and greenery in the southern part to that of striking beauty of the mountain in the northern region and from wild forests to the cultural and religious heritage of the country. Since, these attributes are more than enough to draw the attention of the tourists across the globe, but it would only be possible if the central and the state government of the respective states promote tourism and see it as a highly lucrative industry which to a certain extent has gradually been happening. The highest growth was witnessed in the year of 2014 when 7.68 million foreign tourists explored the country which is much more in comparison to its previous year, in fact, the number of visitors in the year was around 6.97 million. If we look at the last 5 years stats of foreign tourists’ arrivals in India, we will realize that the industry has much more potential. The above chart shows a gradual, yet significant rise in the tourism industry and this credit should be given to the government which has taken certain initiatives like running advertisements on print and electronic media and hiring country’s leading superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan to campaign for the sector and it did pay dividends as well. For example, the tourism in Gujarat reached its zenith after Amitabh Bachchan’s campaign for Gujarat tourism was extensively seen in all the leading channels. Aamir Khan, the Bollywood Superstar played a major role in the success of government’s Atithi Devo Bhava tourism campaign. ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ which means ‘guest is equivalent to God’ paved a new way to reach out to the Indians and gave the message to welcome the tourists from all over the world. In addition, the recently ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign launched by the central government is just the right step towards helping the tourism industry. We no longer can shy away from the fact that India has always been a country where cleanliness and hygiene has always been one of the major issues for foreign travellers. One cannot picture a foreign tourist without a bottle of mineral water, simply because clean drinking water has always been a constant issue across the country. So, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s campaign is also being seen as one of the major boosts that the tourism sector needed.

There is always another side to the coin, albeit one can’t deny the great potential of tourism, there are many challenges that are proving to be major obstacles and ruining its chances. In the last few years, the safety of not only the tourists, but the fellow Indians has been grabbing a lot of headlines. For some foreigners, India is considered to be no longer as safe, particularly after the 26/11 terrorist attack that rocked the entire nation and the world. The terrorists managed to exploit the loopholes of the Indian security and attacked the financial capital of the country, including the hotel The Taj where a lot of foreign tourists lost their lives. Since then, their fear of the safety of the tourists can’t be denied. In addition to the terrorist attack, women’s safety has also been a growing issue which the government has not managed to curb. There have been several instances in the past where foreign female tourists have been preyed upon.

One has to accept the fact that India as a nation is not completely equipped with the infrastructure that can promote tourism in the country. The infrastructure and the hospitality is miserable to say the least, lack of restaurants and clean public toilets just add to the miseries. Our country is vast and transport system functions without any system, the matter is made worse by bad roads which are full of potholes and are prone to accidents. This not only bothers the tourists but hits India’s image globally as well. The trouble for the tourists starts from the Airport where there is no Single Window function, rather it has extreme rules and regulations that turn out to be more than harassment for the travelers. The lack of basic amenities along with the above mentioned issues have been there since ages and till now lie unresolved.

To conclude, tourism can start flourishing if the government starts a lot more public and private tie-ups and the state government needs to work with the state government to make sure the laws and rules and regulations are implemented accordingly. If we can fix the above issues and concerns then travel and tourism could be one of the leading revenue generators for the government and at the same time it can create more jobs.

Bhakra Nangal Project

The Bhakra Nangal Project is a joint venture of the governments of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.

The project had some primary objectives such as the construction of two dams at Bhakra and Nangal; creating the Nangal hydel project; establishing four power houses at Ganguwal and Kotla and construction of transmission lines to distribute electricity to nearby states.

The Bhakra Nangal project is the biggest multipurpose project in the country.
The Bhakra Dam was built in 1963 across the River Sutlej.
The dam is considered as the highest gravity dam in the world and is India’s second tallest dam, the first being the Tehri Dam.
The reservoir of the Bhakra Dam, known as Gobind Sagar, has the capacity to store 9.34 billion cubic metres of water.
This reservoir is the second largest in India, the first being the Indira Sagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh.
The Nangal dam too stands on the River Satluj, but at a distance of 13 km from the Bhakra Dam.
The dam acts as a balancing reservoir and counter-checks the daily fluctuations from the Bhakra Dam.
The Nangal Hydel hydel channel provides water to the Bhakra irrigation canal and uses turbines to generate electricity.
The four powerhouses proposed under the Bhakra Nangal project are situated in Ganguwal, Kotla and the left and right banks of the river. The combined capacity of the hydel power generated by the Bhakra Nangal project is 1205 MW.
Transmission lines measuring a total of 3,680 km have been laid down and they distribute power to several cities situated near the Bhakra Nangal project. The power from the hydel project is also used to run tube wells in Punjab and Haryana and operating trains between Delhi and Ludhiana.
Under the project, an efficient canal system has also been established to provide water for irrigation purposes.
The Bhakra Main Canal has two branches which break down into smaller tributaries and distributaries and provide water to districts in Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
The project was conceived much before Independence and the preliminary work had already begun in 1946.
The construction of the dam was supervised by the Lieutenant Governor Sir Louis Dane.
However, the project got delayed and had to be restarted post Independence.
The first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, had poured the first bucket of concrete into the foundation of the dam.
The project was completed in subsequent phases and became operational in 1963.
However, of late the dam is facing problems of siltation due to deforestation in the Himalayas.
This siltation has reduced the capacity of the dam’s reservoir.
Bhakra Nangal Dam is also an important tourist destination. The beautiful landscape and the fact that the dam is the second highest in India attracts hordes of tourists every year.
The former Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawaharlal Nehru, had called it the New Temple of Resurgent India.
