Basic Qualification

You can apply for a three year Bachelors in Hospital Administration after 10+2 with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. The admission will be based on a written test followed by a group discussion and personal interview. For two year full time or three year part time post-graduate diploma courses or an MBA in Hospital Administration you need graduation from any discipline with preference given to MBBS. The courses available in this field range from bachelor of Hospital Management/Administration, Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Management /Administration, Master of Hospital Administration, MBA in Hospital Administration and MD/M Phil in Hospital Administration to certificate and diploma courses in Hospital management/ administration.

Attitude Aptitude & Skills

As a hospital or health services manager you will be required to understand financial implications of the various decisions taken and have knowledge of information systems, to be able to interpret data for effective decision making. You need to have strong leadership qualities to be able to implement the decisions along with tact, diplomacy and flexibility. As a hospital administrator you must have good judgment and knowledge related to management doctrines and techniques and a friendly attitude, ability to handle public and should be able to meet deadlines under pressure situations. The manager should be trained in managing financial, material and human resources as well as planning and managing information systems. Above all you need to be empathetic and have a flair for organizing, and an eye for detail.

A fresh graduate with a Master’s degree in health services or hospital administration may start their professional career as assistant hospital administrators or as managers of various departments like the front office, public relations, finance, quality control and climb the ladder to become the CEO of the hospital.
