Career Training

Career training should be an essential part of every higher education program in colleges and universities. It should be amply and feasibly provided to students to facilitate the correct selection of a career that suits their aptitude and learning, and is the most appropriate for them.

The institute should have a Career Counseling Department. Such departments have student counselors who are aware of the careers and opportunities in the market. Their knowledge can thus help the choice of students. They will consider a students’ interests, academic status and qualification, capacities and aptitude for a specific career or suggest one accordingly.

In the career training workshops, students are firstly informed about the training for various careers and the prospects of it, the pros and cons. So they can select a training program accordingly, either while studying or after the completion of studies. Such training will then help in getting a suitable job. It not only gifts students with skills and technical training, but also enhances their interest and passion for a particular profession.

Career training is essential as it can help making students experts in their respective fields. The job market today needs experts and there is no vacancy for mediocrity. Thus industry training becomes an essential part of education.

In a training program, it should be kept in mind that the training should be specific, for skill development, and not general. Thus there is need to have different programs, that are specialized for different set of students.

It should be ensured that at the end of the program, a student is well versed in aspects related to the field. Though not hands on experience, but should be good enough for a fresher in the industry.

Career training should not be synonymous with technical training. Not all professions come under the latter. It can be said that technical training is a part of career training. Career training is wider and includes several other facets. It may also see the development of soft skills, interview skills, human skills, leadership skills, etc. In short it should include all that will be required while working.
