It is this rich cultural heritage that the Music Colleges in India seek to impart to the students who have a passion for music and the arts. 

Banaras Hindu University, Faculty of Performing Arts, Varanasi

BHU has a dedicated department for the performing arts that concentrates exclusively on the development of skill in them. In music, you can pursue a bachelor’s degree, the minimum eligibility requirement being a XII pass. The course offered concentrates on Hindustani music, Tabla, Veena, and Vocal. 

Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Faculty of Fine Arts, Banasthali – Rajasthan

This is an all girls educational institution that is known for its study pattern and strict discipline. The Fine Arts Department offers a Bachelor’s degree in music, with special concentration on the Guitar, Karnatak music, the Sarod, Veena, and the Violin. You need a good percentage in XII to get admitted here. 

Bengal Music College, Kolkata

Affiliated to the Calcutta University, this college is located in a place that is one of the seats of music in India. It offers under graduate degree in music, with emphasis on the Sitar, Tabla, Violin, and Vocal and Hindustani music. Also it pays importance to Rabindra Sangeet, whose founder is the Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.  

Bangalore University, Bengaluru

The Bangalore University offers a 3 year bachelor’s program in music. The important subjects in music taught here are – Hindustani and vocal music, and the instruments of Tabla, Veena, and Violin. 

Bharathiar University, Coimbatore

The Faculty of Arts of the University offers education in Music. The areas of specialization here is the Sitar, Violin, Tabla, and Hindustani and Vocal music. 

India Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, Kawardha

Located in the state of Chattisgarh, the university offers a Bachelor’s degree in music. Its main areas of study are the Harmonium, Veena, Keyboard, Karnatak and vocal music. 

Indian Institute of Fine Arts, Bengaluru

It offers a bachelor’s in music, the core areas being teaching of the Sitar, Tabla, Veena, Vocal and Hindustani classical music. 

Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar

The Visual Art and Performing Arts Faculty, has a dedicated Department of Music for training in music. The institute concentrates majorly on Indian Classical Music. It offers Master’s in Music (M. Mus) in Instrumental Music and Vocal Music (different specialization options). Also M. Phil in Instrumental and vocal music. At bachelor’s level, the institute has a course in Performing Arts (B.A Performing Arts). 

University of Delhi, Delhi

Many colleges under the University of Delhi have a course in music. You can opt for Miranda House, Kirori Mal College, Daulat Ram College, that are among the best. They offer a Bachelor’s to students who have passed class XII, and also master’s, and M. Phil in music. 

Private tuition and coaching in music is available in every city and town of India. But a formal degree from one of the music colleges helps in building up a career better, as the formal institution provides you more than just training in music, and is all round learning as well.
