Commerce is that field of study that deals with all aspects that are not scientific or humanitarian, but of great importance. Commerce is broadly speaking the science and art of money management – its value, significance, information, usage as product and service. Commerce involves accounts, calculations, balance sheets. The study of commerce is important as it deals with the practical and day to day aspects of life. The Commerce Colleges aim at training and educating students to be able to deal with commercial concerns that form the crux of the economy of a nation and the world at large. 

Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), New Delhi 

Ranked the best for the last several years, SRCC has been able to maintain its numero uno status because of the quality of education, faculty and placement provided here. The college is solely devoted to the study of commerce unlike any other institute in India. It is affiliated to the University of Delhi. Located in the North Campus of Delhi University, this co-educational institution bases admission on merit alone. The cut off is very high, minimum being a 90% in commerce in class XII. Commerce background is essential for application. And courses are offered at the undergraduate and post graduate levels. 

Madras Christian College, Chennai 

Set up way back in 1837 by Scottish Missionaries, the college today is an autonomous institute since 1978. Commerce can be pursued at the bachelor’s (B. Com) and master’s (M. Com) levels. Admission to B. Com is on merit basis, and thus dependent on your performance in commerce in XII board examinations. Same is true for M. Com – marks secured in B. Com. 

Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), New Delhi

Affiliated to the University of Delhi, LSR has a specific commerce department, which has a huge enrollment. The best thing about the Commerce Department of LSR is the regular events – seminars, education festivals, talks etc. Commerce is a must in XII for admission. And it is based on marks obtained, the cut off percentage being around 93-94%. 

Symbiosis Society’s College of Arts & Commerce, Pune 

Established in 1983, the Symbiosis College of Arts and Commerce is affiliated to University of Pune, and is registered under the Societies Registration Act and Bombay Public Trust Act. At the bachelor’s level, admission is based on merit (class XII marks in commerce). The specializations offered at B. Com level include marketing and advertisement, environmental and organizational behavior, banking and finance, business administration, corporate law, entrepreneurship, costing, and taxation- law, procedure and practice. At master’s level, the various specialization options are cost and works accounting, business administration, and advanced taxation and accounting. 

Loyola College, Chennai 

Founded in 1925, by Father Francis Bertram, a French Jesuit, it is affiliated to the University of Madras. Commerce is offered at the UG, PG, M. Phil and PhD levels. For bachelor’s, a good percentage in commerce in plus two is required, and for master’s, a B. Com is necessary. Admission is on the basis of marks alone. 

Presidency College, Chennai 

One of the oldest and prestigious educational institutions of India, the Presidency College of Chennai was set up in1840. Though an autonomous institute, the degree granted is under the University of Madras. Commerce is offered at the master’s level. Admission is on the basis of the rules set down by the Government of Tamil Nadu. A B. Com is needed to apply for m. Com.  

St Xavier’s College, Mumbai

This college was laid in 1869 by The Society of Jesus and named after St. Francis Xavier, a Jesuit saint. It is essentially a Catholic educational institution, that works for the education and upliftment of students from marginalized sections. The college boasts of having an approximate 120,000 volumes of books, some being from the 16th century. Admission to B. Com. Is on marks obtained in XII in Commerce from any recognized board in the country. 

St Xavier’s College, Kolkata 

This an autonomous college. A unique feature of the Commerce Department of this college is that is has its classes early in the morning and get over by 10 am, and the students usually work thereafter. Admission to bachelor’s is made on marks in XII, in commerce. The specializations at this level are in e-commerce, marketing, and accounting and finance, apart from a general pass. Master’s in Commerce is open for those with a undergraduate degree in commerce. 

Christ University, Bengaluru

It is a minority Christian institution, but open to all students, established by the Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara in 1969. Commerce is a component faculty of the Deanery of Commerce and Management. And students can apply for B. Com and M. Com at this institute. Admission is on marks basis.  

Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics (NMCCE), Mumbai

Established in 1964 by the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal, NMCCE is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Admission is done on the basis of performance in class XII commerce. The cut off percentage is around 80%. famous alumna include the Bollywood star Aamir Khan.
