The common name of pea is simpler than its botanical (scientific) name Pisum sativum. Why then is the simpler common name not used instead of the complex scientific/ botanical name in biology?
There are so many different names of fruits and vegetables in different languages in different countries. It is much easier to remember a standard scientific name than by remembering so many names. Hence, instead of using simpler common name (pea) it is preferred to use scientific name (Pisum sativum).
