Self Evaluation Stepping Stone To Success

steeping stone

Have you evaluated yourself? If you haven’t, probably, you are miles away from the success path. The life of students is evaluated at different levels and by different sets of individuals. Whether it is teachers or counselors, students are continuously evaluated.

How Self Evaluation is Important

  • Self-evaluation gives students a seamlessly practical way of examining the inner self.
  • When students self-evaluate, they begin to know about themselves from a totally unbiased perspective.
  • Real time analysis of actions can be taken into consideration, if the individual starts evaluating correctly.
  • New personality traits come to be known about which students were hardly aware.
  • Self-evaluation leads to building self-confidence and this is very important in writing success.
  • When one self-evaluates, he/she becomes aware about his weaknesses and strengths. In this way, he/she can plan the future course of action and try removing the weaknesses.

Self-Evaluation Removes Prejudices

While in school, students are evaluated at regular intervals of time by their teachers. The fact that hovers around here is that students do not know or have any idea on basic aspects of self-evaluation. It is therefore important for the teachers and others professionals associated with students to make them learn about self-evaluation methodologies. Once students become acquainted with self-evaluation, they will:

  • The role of students is transformed from passive observer to an active contributor.
  • Students begin to look into themselves without any room for prejudices and bias. They will begin to understand what is good or bad for them under a particular set of conditions.
  • Students will react and make decisions on their own. These decisions are mature enough to lead them to a successful path.
  • Through the process of self-evaluation, students will be able to justify their actions and start leading meaningful lives.

How Students should be trained for Self-Evaluation

There are different ways by which students can be trained for self-evaluation:

  • Assignment Levels : Here the teacher will ask students to complete certain types of assignments and later make the assessment of them to know the difficulties experienced and understanding developed in a particular area.
  • Personal Levels : The teacher will judge the actions and reactions of students by posing peculiar questions. These questions help in knowing how the students estimate themselves.
  • Psycho-Analytic Levels : A detailed psycho analysis is done to understand how and what actions and reactions are shown in a particular set of conditions.

Self-evaluation is a slow and gradual process and results should not be expected in one day.

How to choose the Right MBA Specialization?

mba specialization

Have you heard of Herd Mentality?

Well, Herd mentality is the basic reason a person suffers from depression of choosing a specialization that does not go in sync with their desires and personality.

You might think why herd mentality is being discussed! The truth is- due to the market full of management people, people are now simply choosing specialization to hear say, whereas they must be choosing specialization after having a deal of thought, research, and assessment of one’s internal desires and external environment.

If you want to succeed after your MBA degree, here are some key points that you must keep in mind while choosing your MBA specialization:

  1. Hard and smart work: Some may argue that choosing one specialization over another requires research and smart approach. However, it is wrong to assume a particular specialization is inferior to another. Every specialization has a target industry or commercial sector. To achieve that target, there is no alternative to hard work and perseverance.
  1. Trend is mostly a fad: India had faced an information technology boom with students opting for computer related general and engineering courses for a shortcut to success. But currently the sector is edging towards a saturated stage with so many people with the same set of specializations. It has to be kept in mind that the whole process is sinusoidal. In management, Marketing or Finance is sought after the most, thanks to emerging retail companies or whopping investment banking salaries. However it is wiser to look at long-term goals instead of just following a trend.
  1. Specific/Generalized: The question lies as to what sort of subject or job is most appealing to a particular individual. If broad spectrum stuff like general management and office administration interests you, it is wiser to go there and not follow the specialized ones. The specialization however narrows down the scope and gives more focused skills.
  1. Course and Curriculum: Information is extremely crucial. At childhood, a lot of students make career decisions based on popular beliefs, parental desires or peer pressure from the society. Management gives a scope to exercise your own will and take a decision that you will most likely not regret.
  1. Career path: Students are moving away from the tried and tested routes towards career development that usually begins with completing basic education and followed by joining a reputed company. Specialization empowers a person to exercise the gained knowledge and skill set to set up their own organizations where they are their own boss. Entrepreneurship has gathered momentum both in marketing and research areas.
  1. Character traits: Every person has a varying personality that determines their dedication and interest towards their work. Someone may prefer to be on the move while others might prefer to be a regular working office employee. Some prefer the income compared to work satisfaction while the same might not stand true for the rest. While a segment prefers leadership skills others gain more satisfaction in teamwork. Assessing one’s strength and weakness is an effective tool to reach a conclusive career decision.
  1. Research: The Internet is on the desk and palm of our hands with technology reaching superior heights. With 24×7 access to information databases, students should go through detailed information about the subjects, existing student profiles, and possible career outlays and growth plans.

Multinationals vs. Startups – Who offer the best Jobs?

who offer the best job?

Career Confusion

If you have just graduated or are going to graduate, then you must have heard or even participated in the debate about multinationals and start-ups, with everyone questioning which of these is a better option for growth! Where Multinationals are big, strong but slow, start-ups are small, lean and fast. Depending upon your job interests, need for stability and steady income, you can opt for either for them.

Let’s check out which one of them can offer you the best job!

  1. If in a job, salary is your first preference, then multinationals generally offer a higher package but growth is relatively stagnant. In start-ups on the other hand, you have low cash in-flow but once it goes public the salary is at par with other multinationals.
  1. Startups rarely hire MBA professionals, because their packages are low. Therefore, if you are an MBA, you might just be overqualified for a startup.
  1. The difference between selection processes and interviews at startups and multinationals vary. Multinationals prefer mass recruitment with a medium level selection process but startups look for a few fully dedicated candidates with a thorough and deep knowledge of the field. So, the selection process is quite challenging.
  1. If you are truly interested in learning then nothing is better than a start-up company. It provides you immense knowledge, which is very rare when it comes to multinationals.

Therefore, if steadiness and average pay scale is what you desire for, then multinational is your choice. But if you crave for challenges and situations that test your ingenuity and skills, then startups are waiting for you!

Many students have this habit, and they can testify, that studying out loud while walking helps to memorize faster and better. Also, it can help you lose weight if you can manage to do that for some hours. Working professionals can find this practice a bit problematic.

5. Extra Load on The Brain

Exam/ Project Deadline Exam really gets one going. Depending on sincerity or lack of preparation, students and professionals get pepped up at the last minute and really put in efforts beyond their normal capacity. This extra load on the brain affects a student’s health and as a positive effect here, transforms into weight loss.

6. Proper sleeping practices:

Proper sleeping habits are vital in maintaining health. Oversleeping can cause weight gain and under-sleeping causes the opposite. So you should balance it well enough. A student’s health during exam depends a lot on his sleeping habits.

7. No food on the table:

While studying, concentrate only on your study. Don’t keep anything edible nearby. This unnecessary practice causes weight gain in the longer run.

8. Don’t keep your necessary documents in one place:

Keep what you have to study in different places, so as to get up and have a walk whenever you need them. Having everything within an arm’s reach will never give you an incentive to move.

9. No midnight snacks:

Cut down on this habit. During exams, having midnight snacks becomes a necessary habit but try not to pick it up. Sleep followed by snacks adds to your fat content.

10. No junk food:

A health hazard, junk food contains a lot of fat that can take shelter in your body. Avoid junk food especially during exam time, if you study at a single place for hours.

For students who want to keep a tab on their health, these are simple ways in which you can voluntarily or involuntarily stay or get in shape.
