St. Stephen’s College, affiliated to the University of Delhi, is the oldest and prestigious educational institution in Delhi. It was founded in 1818 with the motive of providing the best education to the society and momentum to the education of Christians. The cut off percentage is very high here which guarantees that only the best students get through. Every arts student desires to get admission to St. Stephen’s. it offers B.A. In Economics, English, History, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Maths, and General Pass. It has hostel for both boys and girls. The St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, under the Calcutta University, was founded in 1860 with the motive of educating the Christian community. Today it draws students from all quarters and communities. The college provides Bachelor’s degree in English, Political Science, Sociology and Bengali. The Master’s degree from this college is also coveted. It has two hostels for boys. The auditorium and library is a good one.

St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, founded in 1540, is one of the oldest and best Arts College in India today. Students can choose from the variety of subjects offered by the institute which include English, History, Hindi, Political Science, Psychology, French, Economics. It also offers M.A and PhD degree. The library is famous for housing a huge number of books and those from the 16th century. 

Presidency College of Kolkata is the oldest college in the country founded in1817. It was initially named Hindoo College and renamed Presidency in 1855. It is a component college of Calcutta University. Bengali, English, Hindi, History, Political Science, Philosophy and Sociology honors is offered to students by this college. The campus is an old one. There is a hostel for boys. The library has a vast collection of rare old books, archival records, reference material, journals and educational CDs. 

Some other good Arts Colleges in India are the Mount Carmel College in Bangalore, Christ College in Bangalore, Fergusson College of Pune, Presidency College of Chennai, the Hindu College and Hans Raj College of Delhi. 

One of the benefits of the Arts Colleges in India is that the courses are not open solely for Humanities students. Students from other streams- Science and Commerce can also apply to most of these colleges. The eligibility criteria may differ.
