Film Maker

When we think of a filmmaker, we associate it with the Director. He is the head of the team, but there are others who contribute significantly. If you want to be a filmmaker, you should start your career by assisting a senior Director.

A good number of institutes offer direction and production courses in India, namely the Film and Television Institute of India (Pune), National Institute of Design (Ahmadabad), National School of Drama (Delhi), etc.

Actor

If you have a penchant for acting and can emote and act, then this is the most lucrative career in the entertainment industry.

Though it is believed that the skill is inherent, training only sculpts you to better your abilities. Some good acting institutes include – the National School of Drama (Delhi), Film and Television Institute of India (Pune).

In Music

A career in music entails being a singer (provide you can sing and not croak), music director, music composer, lyricist, musician, etc. knowledge of music is essential, and thus this is not a career open to all.

Designer

There is the scope of employment and success for all sorts of designers in this industry – be it apparel, footwear, accessories, jewelry design, or set design. You need to enroll in a design college for this.

In Beauty and Makeup

Your work is to only make your client look gorgeous and coveted. Make up for films or personal events, a beauty professional is in high demand. So is a cosmetologist, with celebrities every day in the news for their facelifts, hair weaving, botox treatments, cosmetic treatments, etc.

To be a makeup artist, a beauty course should suffice.

To be a cosmetologist, you have to undergo specific medical training from a reputed institute and have a license to practice.

Public Relations

As a public relations personnel, you will be working for a client who can be an actor, director, musician, etc. You will have to publicize the celebrity, that is, get media coverage, by publishing or broadcasting interviews, news, or the latest gossip about your client in various media.

Critic

A critic reviews all creations, be it a film, a piece of music, a book, a play, etc. It is not easy as though you have the liberty to like or dislike a particular creation, you should back it with ample and substantial evidence. But a critic is highly regarded as well as feared in this industry as he possesses the capability to make or break a creation.

Photography

You can either be a still photographer (fashion photographer or photojournalist).

Or be a cinematographer, and work in close association with the director to decide the shots to be taken and how to tell the story through the camera.

You have to be trained to be either.

Good photography colleges in India are – FTII Pune, Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad; Jamia Milia Islamia, Delhi; National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad; etc.

In Writing

You will write scripts for television, films, radio, and other media. Writing for films is known as a screenplay. For this, you need to have an excellent grip over the language you choose to write in, apt vocabulary and be highly creative and innovative, so as to create original scripts.

Most mass communication, journalism, and film schools teach extensively how to write for various mediums.
