For those who have just passed out of school, or college, and do not know what to do next; for those who want to take a break before the fight for survival; for those who want to earn nice bucks; Call Center is the workstation. If you are keen on getting a job that requires no special training or qualification, and still has the scope and provides an opportunity for growth, then you are meant to join the industry.

Commitment as a Student & Job Commitment

If you want to continue and spend a considerable number of years in a call center, and rise to the next levels of authority, then you need to be really dedicated. You need to adjust to late working hours and be able to take the high pressure for achieving targets. Call centers deal with clients in all sectors and industries, so you have to be able to grasp an understanding of the client and customer at a quick pace.

Basic Qualification

The requirement to join a call center is minimal. You do not need to be highly qualified. Most call centers hire someone who has completed graduation in any discipline, but some also hire just-out-of-school people. What you need is great communication skills and an ability to interact and converse with people. You need no special training also. You are trained in voice modulation and technology used on the job, by your employing company.

Attitude Aptitude & Skills

Loads of hard work is required. You have to have the capacity and capability to adapt, for example, change your sleep timings from night today. You have to work when the world sleeps and sleep when the world works. Your communication skills have to be excellent. As well as your ability to woo customers. You have to be convincing, well-mannered, courteous, and never rude. You should also have a cool temperament as many times you will be faced with customers who are rude or irritating. It requires a lot of patience to be a successful call center professional. It is a customer service field. Thus though the customer may be wrong, you have to be able to tactfully and diplomatically extract what you have to. It is a difficult field keeping in mind the targets that are to be met. But it pays also well and the incentives, work environment, facilities etc are magnetic.

Future Prospects

India is a growing market for call center professionals because of outsourcing. India provides cheap labor and efficiency that foreign clients want to command. Call centers have come up in a big way in recent years and will continue to grow in the near future. So it grants great scope and opportunity. Also, you may join as a tele-caller, but with experience can shift to other departments or the managerial level. The various levels that you can achieve are an executive-senior executive-team leader-assistant manager-manager-senior manager-general manager. With years spent there, you can become the trainer – process trainer or accent trainer.
