Question 7

Solid A is a very hard electrical insulator in solid as well as in molten state and melts at extremely high temperature. What type of solid is it?

The solids which are very hard have their atoms bind to each other by covalent bond forces which are very strong, as a result they have high melting & boiling points & do not conduct heat are called as covalent crystals(crystalline solids). Hence, solid A shows the properties of an covalent crystalline solids.

For example  diamond (C), quartz (SiO2), &  silicon carbide SiC)
